I usually do not post Youtube clips of current news here but this one you got to see. A police officer is seen punching a 17-year-old girl in the face during the incident captured by a video camera on Monday.
Excessive force in my opinion
The officer was talking to the man when he saw four young women jaywalk across the same street at the same spot. The officer asked the women to step over to his patrol car, but the women were being “verbally antagonistic toward the officer,” according to officials.
One of the women, later identified as a 19 year old, began to walk away from the scene despite the officer’s instructions, prompting the officer to walk over to her and escort her back to his patrol car.
The girl then “began to tense up her arm, and pull away from the officer while yelling at him,” investigators said. The officer told the girl to place her hands on his patrol car, but she refused. When the officer tried to grab hold of her, “she pulled away and twisted, breaking free of the officer’s grip several times,” the blotter report said.
When the officer tried to handcuff the girl, another girl, this one 17 years old, intervened and placed her hands on the officer’s arm, “causing the officer to believe she was attempting to physically affect the first subject’s escape,” police said.
The officer pushed back the second girl, but the girl came back at him. The officer then punched her, police said.

Yes and to think these women are just teenagers. For a jaywalking violation, these teens didn’t deserve to be treated like that. Cop should be suspended.

Yes he did. He punched the teenage girl. Excessive force. Not listening doesn’t deserve a punch especially if you are a teenage girl.

I disagree, I believe she did two things to deserve that. First she pushes the officer.
Then the man in the blue-green shirt tries to pull her away. (To no avail) Next she grabs the officer’s arm and shoves him out of the way, (you must watch this slowly) and she immediately assumes a boxing stance. I believe that while it looks brutal that had he not led with that punch it would have been her punching him.

HIS mistake was not grounding her with his knee to her neck and the cuffs on much sooner. He’s lucky the rest in the crowd didn’t attack him.

Im just “sickened” buy the total disrespect that these young ladies have for authority,Its The Police, They Have Guns! And the right to use them!, if this is how those teens respect the law, just think how they treat there own parents, I blame the system for this as well.

Just watched it and I did not see the girl in pink take a “boxing stance”. Even if she wasn’t a teenager she really did not deserve that especially since the officer looks like he could easily subdue her without using excessive force (in this case, a punch in the face). I hope the cop gets suspended. He was so stupid to do that seeing as there were so many cameras rolling at that time.
I agree with you most of the time Perez, but come on. These girls were not just being arrested for jaywalking, they were attacking the cop! You push a cop, you get punched, makes a lot-o-fecking since!

I do think the girl is at fault for not listening but at the same time, yeah the officer did use too much aggression. I think the officer made a mistake when he punched her, just overreacted I believe. I think nothing would of happened if the girl had just simply followed the orders of the officer. It’s a tough deal for sure, I know one thing…. I would not want to be the officer after this incident.

Shocking! I agree that the girls are completely out of order but a punch in the face?……didn’t seem neccessary to me.
I also just replayed that video, the girl did not take a fighting stance before the officer hit her, however…. I was told by my Father that the man or woman with the gun and the Badge is called sir or Ma’am and you do what you are told when you are told …… No exceptions !
I hope it works out OK for the officer, his lucky that crowd did not turn on him, perhaps the camera phone crowd knew his was right in his actions.
Yeah… this is a controversial incident. If an incident happened there will be obviously two versions. I don’t know that anyone was right in this situation. It is good that everything is recorded in the video. But in my opinion there are mistakes in two sides. The officer was in the right in this situation. If anything, he was patient with him, he can take action but it is not right to hit women. This is an issue of 2 ignorant young women who have no respect for the law. Race in this issue doesn’t matter in the least. But I would say there is bit of police brutality!
I can only say this is not a way to treat such teens, It seems very controversial incident and this is also called viciousness.
I agree that resorting to physical violence on a woman, and by a cop no less is quite inappropriate. Even though the woman was testing his patience, he could’ve maybe shoved her away or something instead of outright punching.
