Can anyone tell me what happened to my Technorati Authority? This is the same question everyone asking, what happened to my Technorati Authority. Today I used Website Grader to check if there’s any improvement in my blog and what are the stats. To my surprise, it says there that my blog is unranked by Technorati. Everyone knows here that my blog isbarely two months old but last time I’ve checked I already have 9 Authority. By no means is something to cheer about but it is still something for newbie bloggers like me.
Just to make sure I logged in to my Technorati account and lo and behold the site feels different though it looks the same. For one my avatar is gone, some of the information in my account is gone and I only have 1 Authority showing up plus I can not find my blog if I search for it.
I’ve searched the internet and I can see the same question over and over again. Finally I’ve found a Technorati representative trying to answer the same question at GetSatisfaction.com explaining the changes at Technorati and Authority ranking. People aren’t satisfied with the answers though because they’ve lost their Authorities that makes their blog or websites look less popular. Because Technorati is used as a metric in various other reputation and scoring systems across the web, it affects blogs and sites appearance in those rankings and therefore the traffic and reputation gets affected.
It’s like if you have a top 100k Alexa ranking then somehow it’s all gone. If you are selling ads then you will get affected and somehow your visitors will be less too even though Technorati doesn’t really give out much traffic to us…at least to the ones I know.
Anyway here is a short explanation from Technorati:
The Technorati.com beta site you see today has literally been rebuilt from the ground up. When you take a look at the new site, you’ll see some things you like, and you’ll notice some things that are gone (some of which will be back soon).
In the past, we based Technorati Authority on six months of blogosphere data. With the new algorithm, the resulting Authority will better reflect the fast-changing nature of the blogosphere. We are also excited to announce Topical Authority. As opposed to overall Technorati Authority, Topical Authority is limited to a specific category. Some blogs may rank in more than one category.
Bloggers can now directly publish articles on Technorati.com. This provides a unique opportunity and yet another way for authors to present their content to a larger audience, directly by presenting articles to millions of readers and indirectly by receiving traffic from links back to their own blog or site.
With six years of history behind us, we have also discovered what’s important and not important in our offerings. As such, some things will go away permanently, and others will return later with enhanced utility that reflects the new features of the site.
You can check the whole thing here -> Totally new Technorati
So do you like the changes? Or you hate it because those hundreds and sometimes thousands Authority are now gone and not sure if its going to be back.

I think Technorati reset the authority when change to new technorati. Let’s wait a month for it, i think the authority will back.

You are right Dana, they said they are manually putting it back. Manually? There’s a big chance you won’t get all of of your Authority back.

I stopped relying on Technorati awhile ago for authority. I was seeing a drop in rankings because of their changes. Now this is exciting news for sure with the new and improved version. As far as the Alexa rankings being helped or not because of Technorati, I really don’t care as a side note cause Google doesn’t use it anymore in their rankings for your sites.
But Technorati is a big player in the overall game of search engine rankings.
Cheers

I just hope the new Technorati is an improvement but so far I really don’t get any traffic from Technorati.

I must admit, I haven’t really gotten around to checking out the features of technorati yet. I just added my blog there cause that’s what “bloggers are supposed to do”, I guess
But I intend to learn more about technorati and how to use it, in the near future though.

This same thing happened to me with Technorati. I was all set up and rolling along, and then everything disappeared. Hopefully the improvements are for the better, but a little notice would have been nice!

That’s what I’m thinking too Geof…there should be some sort of notice from our Technorati account or an email perhaps.

I was wondering this too, but just yesterday it seems like I got my authority back.

Hmmm….I personally haven’t been on technorati in a while. Hopefully they get this problem cleared up, but for now I’m on my way to see how my site’s authority is doing.

Give ‘em some time. Maybe they just realize that they need a fresh new look like StumbleUpon did.

great stuff here
The same thing happened to me and it is so frustrating! I had an authority of 128 and now, it’s at a measly little 1. I am not satisfied with the answer they gave me and have been doing the waiting game to see if it comes back, but, so far, still at 1.
I think I am kind of done with Technorati.

Sorry to hear than Michelle. Technorati screw this up.

“Bloggers can now directly publish articles on Technorati.com. This provides a unique opportunity and yet another way for authors to present their content to a larger audience, directly by presenting articles to millions of readers and indirectly by receiving traffic from links back to their own blog or site.”
This is an exciting new feature for new bloggers especially to get to their content to a larger audience and gain attention like this the easy way. If their article is great then they have got a great opportunity to build on more from this traffic.
Now…on the worst part
“With six years of history behind us, we have also discovered what’s important and not important in our offerings.”
When any site or company talks like this, it doesn’t sound right and look right, Technorati actually wants to impose their authority that they’re a controller of anyone’s fortunes and traffic. And all the bloggers are at their discretion.
That’s just my opinion, I am not too much close with Technorati so I may be completely wrong.
I think google changed their algorithms too.
