I finally give in. I put a Top Commentator widget on my blog. This is to give something back to people who add comments. I want my blog to be as simple as it can be, with less ads and less widgets but I think Top Commentator is a win-win situation between me and my commentators.
Leaving comments on other people’s blog is an excellent way of getting links back to your website. However, in some cases what you are really getting is a no-follow link, which means search engines don’t see the link and its not counted as backlink.
This blog is a PR3 blog and it’s a Dofollow so being there in the top commentator side bar will give some link love or aka PR boost. The first thing I’ve learned about getting traffic to my blog and some PageRank back when I made this blog 6 months ago was to add useful comments to different blogs on the internet.
Adding comments to other blogs creates exposure to my “non existent” blog. And this blog actually got a PR3 right away after 2 months maybe because the result of my comments. I’m leaving something like 30 comments a day on about a dozen blogs and the result is about 20 visits coming from those blogs too. So aside from a PR boost, you’ll also get some traffic back.
I’m not worried about spam because Akismet plug in has been doing an excellent job in catching 95 percent of spam comments and I delete the remaining 5 percent like “great post” “I like this article” type of comments. So make sure you read the article and put some useful comments so your comment won’t get deleted.
So there you go, I finally installed the Top Commentator plug in and now I’m rewarding those people who add their 2 cents in my articles. Happy commenting.

This is a great plugin to be added in blog. I also installed it in my blog. I wish to use this plugin to encourage more people leave comment in my blog. Thanks for the link reward!
Thanks for leaving your comment here. You got nice blog KS.
Having this may increase your comments ob your blog, but, be prepared for a lot of spammers coming in to try and get in the top spots, I had that with my blog
I know Karen but I have faith in Akismet
Good job in adding the Top Commenters plugin/widget. I’m using it too. How did you set it up in terms of “clearing the list”, does it clear every month or every running 30 days, or?
Also, what happened to CommentLuv? You used to have it, now it’s gone
That’s what I’ve been trying to find out for the last few days. Yesterday it was here but it won’t show any past written articles, even mine. Now its all gone BUT on my plug in page, its still there and I didn’t do anything. I might remove it and install it again and maybe that will fix things.
Nice to see you finally cracked, now I just need to get in gear and own it
Great move! But you should exclude your self (ZXT) from the lists.
I’m actually trying to do that but to no avail. I put my email under the filtered email box in settings but still its showing up. Any ideas?
that’s what i am talking about… you should have done this in the first place..
Keep it up man!
Thanks Sernan

Leaving comments on other people’s blog is not only a good way to get blog owners to notice, but it’s also a good way to get blog readers to visit you, therefore bringing you traffic.

Never thought of doing this to drive traffic to my site and encouraging comments, it’s something I’m going to look into, thanks.
How can I turn the default “nofollow” of links on my site to “dofollow” by the way? I’m curious to try it out and see what effect (negative or positive) it may have on my still very new site.

Nice to see you here Julie. To get rid of the default nofollow you need to install a dofollow plug in which you can find it here http://www.semiologic.com/software/dofollow/
The effect of a do follow blog is you encourage people to comment because they know they will get something back. Of course you need a good article in the first place. Check out commentluv and keywordluv plug ins too as it will help you get more comments.
