Pacquiao Dominates Clottey

Manny Pacquiao dominates Joshua Clottey in front of 51,000 fans in Cowboy Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Pacquiao (51-3-2, 38 KO) easily won a unanimous decision against a tentative, scared Clottey (35-4, 20 KO) on scores of 120-108, 119-109, 119-109

Round after round, Clottey put his guards up and Pacquaio did the punching. It was a no contest. Compubox numbers says it all, Pacquiao landed 246 of 1,231 punches; Clottey connected on just 108 of 399.

Pacquiao dominates with his hand speed and side to side movement and he made the former champion winced several times as he fired off hard combinations at Clottey’s midsection. Ninety five percent of the time though Clottey’s guard is up, just waiting to absorb the asian typhoon combination. As good as his defense though, a punch here and there goes through from Manny Pacquiao.

Defense don’t and can’t win fights so I am not sure what Clottey was thinking doing his defense for the whole night. Maybe he’s just proud that he didn’t kiss the canvass and he lasted the distance with Manny Pacquiao and it’s some sort of achievement I must say.

Now I guess its a waiting game. Pacman most probably will fight the winner of Mayweather Mosley fight in May 1. Till then, Pacquiao will be busy with his campaign for a congressional seat in Philippines May 10 election.

I think he never thought of winning against pacquiao to begin with. So maybe, he only wants to stay until the last round without being knocked down. Some said, the game is boring…

medyo boring. di halos lumaban si clottey. pero congrats kay pacquiao! sana hindi sya huminto sa boxing para makalaban nya winner ng pbf-mosley.

  3. That stadium would be an amazing place to see a fight. Even if you were really far away you could have any amazing few with the giant screens they have in that stadium.

  4. Manny Pacquiao demonstrated once again that he is the pound for pound king of the decade. Joshua Clottey came not to win , but just not lose attitude. It was a pity sight though for people who went to see live, but were utterly frustrated by clotteys’ fight. Then he bragged that he did not feel the power? well thats relative.

I was expecting a bit more from Clottey, but he was simply outclassed in this one. While he has very solid defensive skills, he had no chance since his offensive output was too few and far between.

My thoughts exactly! I was also pleased Pacquiao showed that he had the patience to deal with a defensive fighter. Rather than get frustrated, he did what was necessary to win on points through controlled aggression and sheer number of punches thrown. It wasn’t the most entertaining fight, but very effective from Pacquiao.

By the way, another positive thing on display that was also mentioned in the article was the mutual respect and admiration between the two fighters. This actually seems to be a trait in a lot of Pacquiao’s fights, which shows a lot about his character and those of his opponents. It’s refreshing and a real throwback to how old boxers used to be before the 60s: Athletes who gave their all, but at the same time were both models of sportsmanship and gentlemen in the ring. The comments made by both Pacquiao and Clottey after the fight was quite heart warming and highlighted this even more.
