Online Faxing

fax machineWe all know fax is almost obsolete. We also know that a lot of companies or individuals are still sticking to fax as a way of sending and receiving documents. Fax is expensive because you need to buy a fax machine plus all the papers you need and ink for receiving fax even though more half of those doesn’t need to be printed out.

I think it’s time everyone use an online fax service. You will save money on paper and ink because every fax will be in your email and all fax will be “need to print” basis. No waste on paper and ink I’d say. You also don’t need to buy a fax machine because everything is done through your computer and I think most houses have computer nowadays, some households even have multiples computers.

Fax to email is also mobile. I mean you can get your fax or send one wherever you are. You can be at the airport and yo can fax your quotation to your client via internet. the same thing can be said when receiving because you just need to check your email to see if you have fax waiting to be read.

Cost is also a factor here. Because your fax goes through the internet, you don’t need to pay long distance when sending out and you don’t need to turn on your fax machine all day to receive fax.

The only downside I see from internet faxing is if you don’t have a scanner and you need to send a document in hard form. But I think most people now have their documents in digital form already and a lot of households have scanners too. Scanners are so cheap you can get one under $50.

Here are the pros and cons of using online fax service.

Pros

1. Save ink and paper

2. Save on fax machine

3. Doesn’t tie up your telephone

4. Receive and send fax anywhere and everywhere.

5. You are helping Mother Earth

Cons

1. Need a scanner to send documents in hard form

2. Can’t think of any.

I personally use Onesuite fax to email feature because I need to send and receive fax from time to time and because I already have an account with Onesuite for my long distance needs, I go with their fax service too. I got a US local number (CA) and all incoming fax are free.

I am pretty sure a lot of bloggers here also still sending and receiving fax, maybe not everyday but still.  So I suggest you ditch the traditional faxing method and go with online faxing. Choose an online fax provider that suits your needs and check if they have a trial period and give it a shot.

Go green and help save mother earth and save some $$$ in the process.

I have used RapidFax and they are great, I think you can get 150 faxes, toll free or local number, they accept multiple types of doc’s (word, pdf etc..) and last I used it was $7.95 per month with first month free.

I wish faxing would finally go b/c its the worst. The only problem I ever have is when people won’t take emails and only faxes and I have to run over to Office Max.

Even during the fax machine’s heyday, I still didn’t get around to using one. It was such a pain to scan the document on a fax machine and getting that crappy copy on the other end is even worse. That piece of fax paper doesn’t even last a month! It just disintegrates and the ink fades away, rendering it useless. As soon as the computer came out, I skipped the whole fax machine technology and went straight to email (and maybe computer-generated faxes once in a while). Never looked back.

  4. Good post. Anytime I need to fax something I do it from work, but when I’m caught of guard and I’ve used Ureach It’s not bad. They use to give you 7 days free.

Great post. The best part is, this is a great way in going green. Going green is a growing trend in the business world. I know where I work, they go through a ton of toner and paper everyday. They use to have signs up everywhere telling us to use the new system and how wasteful it for just that one location to print and fax. They now offer a fax to email system and they say most people use it. Most of the traditional faxes stuff is for incoming email from overseas or when they need to print out those faxes.

As for my personal buisness, our new all-in-one printer comes with a fax. But will never use it as a tradition fax. We do not even have a land line. We use cell phones, Skye and Google Voice for all of our calls. Besides our new fax offers fax to email. If I need use a true fax, which happens once or twice month, I will send from work if its local or to a toll free 800 number. If its long distance, I will use a service.
