New Year Full Moon

I was surprised to see a full moon on New Year’s eve a few days ago. I quickly grabbed my Canon 400D dslr and took a snapshots of the full moon. I had to changed to zoom lens so I can see the full beauty of the moon.

I did some research and found out that full moon on New Year’s day only happens once every 19 years. No wonder I never remembered seeing full moon on New Year’s day.

Next month I will try again to capture another shot of full moon, hopefully it will be bigger (on some days, the moon just seems bigger)

I think I need a more powerful lens to see more of the moon and get a clearer shot of its body. For now enjoy the these images of full moon.

So did you happen to notice the full moon on New Year’s day?

Out of curiosity, what lens did you use with your 400D. The clarity of that first (left-most) shot is great.

  2. I’m not familiar with the intricacies of photography but I can’t help but agree that indeed that first shot right there (the one showing the big moon with the globe-like terrain) is most interesting and so out-of-this-world. On closer inspection, I see that the third and fourth shots are as eerie as the first one. Can’t help but conjure up the image of Aro (the Volturi leader) lurking somewhere. :)

I’ve heard talk that it was a ‘blue moon’. Once every 19 years you say? So, that explains the phrase, ‘once in a blue moon’.

That’s actually what I was going to say. It was a blue moon! Second full moon in a month, if I remember correctly. Cool!
