My Bohol Trip part 1

Chocolate hills

Chocolate hills

This post was partially written while I’m still in Bohol and was just sitting in my draft folder for 3 weeks now. I originally planned to blog about this daily while in Bohol but I got so tired come night time. So today I decided to go on with it. There will be pictures included from Manila airport to Tagbilaran and our trips to different places in Bohol. So stay put, read and enjoy the pictures from the island of Bohol.

Okay I’ve been sick with skin allergy 2 weeks ago followed by cough and colds. A few days ago I went to my doctor and she said I got an acute sinusitis. No worries because all I need was rest and take my medicines on time and today I feel great already. To make long story short, I was able to proceed with my family to Bohol, a southern province of Visayas, about 600kms away from Manila by plane.

I’ve never been to Bohol so I was pretty excited. Our flight was at 3pm and it’s cloudy so its really not Manila’s typical hot afternoon. We were at the airport 3 hours before our flight so we have plenty of time to relax and take our lunch. We boarded at 2:50 but waited for almost 30 minutes before taking off. The flight is only an hour and 10 minutes so its a very short flight. No time to sleep I guess. Before the plane left the ground I fired up my Canon 400D to take some pictures.

PAL 747 Inside the plane NAIA South Luzon Expressway

That’s a Philippine Airline 747 Jumbo jet in the first pic. It’s very huge plane especially in person. Second picture is us while waiting for the plane to take off. Then you can see the facade of Ninoy Aquino International Airport (formerly Manila International Airport) on the 3rd picture. Now it’s lift off and as you can see I am sitting on the right side of the plane so I’m looking east and the long highway you can see below is the South Luzon Expressway, it leads to all south Luzon provinces.

South of Metro Manila Laguna Bay Plane banking Clouds

Here you can see the South Luzon Expressway turning right. At the bend on its right is SM Bicutan. Now we see the Laguna Bay and towns around it which was all pretty submerged during typhoon Ondoy. Then the  plane suddenly banked hard to the right as we headed towards south. Then it was all clouds. I’m actually waiting for Atreyu and his dog Falkor from the The Never Ending Story to show up but when they didn’t I just decided to take some pictures of the beautiful clouds.

Wing Sky Clouds Sun Old Mactan Bridge Cebu port Mini hills

One the pictures I took has four subjects in it. The plane’s right wing, the blue sky above, some clouds below and the sun on the upper right. A few minutes more and the plane’s engines hummed, I think we are starting to descend. I looked outside the windows and saw some mountains and buildings then then I see the old Mactan bridge in Cebu. We are directly above Cebu now I said to myself and again I fired up my Canon 400D. You can see in the pictuers the old Mactan bridge and Cebu port and depots. As we continue to descend, I saw hills clearly below that somewhat looked like a bad version of Chocolate Hills.

Moments to touch down Tagbilaran short runway Tagbilaran Airport Tarmac

Then I saw houses as we approached the runway and we are less than 100ft above the earth and the rear part of the wing tilted down. Now it’s just moments to touch down. The runway is short so it’s not your typical long landing with bigger planes, I think this runway is just about 800 meters. Finally we arrived at Tagbilaran airport and again we used stairs to get off the plane. It’s almost 5pm now and the runway has no lights and it will go back to Manila in a few minutes taking almost hundred passengers with them. They need to hush hush everything so the plane can leave before night fall.

Here’s the Bohol Trip Part 2.

  11. Great Post! This might be a little off topic but has anyone ever been to an island Boracay? Its like that movie The Beach with Leonardo Dicaprio!

  12. Sasha says:

Boracay? One of the must have seen islands! But in my opinion it’s also an island what you can visit one time, but then it’s already enough.

On the Philippines are some island where you need to stay one time, but not more often. Same like Malapascua Island, one time is enough, even if it should be a diving paradise.

Hopefully you had a very nice time on the philippines all in all!
