Manny Pacquiao Demolished Miguel Cotto

Pacquiao stopped Cotto

Pacquiao stopped Cotto in the 12th round

Manny Pacquiao took the first round to check what Miguel Cotto has to offer and lose that round. As it turns out its the only round he lost because he chopped Miguel Cotto piece by piece for the next 11 rounds.

Pacquiao made history in the process when he battered Miguel Cotto the whole fight, winning the World Boxing Organization welterweight title in one of the finest performances of his brilliant career. Manny knock down Cotto in the 3rd round  and repeat it the following round. Cotto visibly stunned on both occasions but recovered fine through the rounds. Although he didn’t kiss the canvas again, Cotto’s power and size was no match for Manny’s foot speed and lightning quick punches.

Succeeding rounds were almost an exact repeat of the previous rounds. Manny Pacquiao steadily demolish Miguel Cotto 3 punches at a time. Cotto eventually adapted to his cycling style and back pedaled half of the fight and Manny spent most of his time chasing Miguel. Cotto connected with his jabs every now and then but didn’t stop Pacquiao to stalk Miguel through the night. A few times Manny was visibly upset and asked Cotto numerous times to engage and stop running away. When Cotto stopped backing away then he get punished by a barrrage of punches coming from all over the place and Cotto will go back to his back pedaling ways.

Halfway through the fight Cotto has no plan c for Pacquiao’s quickness and agi;ity and began to be a purely defensive boxer aside from a few jabs here and there. Round 12 began like the 10 previous ones with Manny stalking Miguel relentlessly. 50 seconds through the last round, Pacquiao catches Miguel with a couple of fast combination and referee Kenny Bayless has no option but to stop the fight and save Cotto from more beating. Manny Pacquiao ran to a neutral corner and said his prayer and Cotto followed him and gave the newly crowned WBO welterweight a hug.

Pacquiao became the first and only boxer to be a 7 time champ in 7 different weigh class. What once a poor boy from General Santos city who sell donuts and fish in the streets just to make ends meet is now one of the most recognizable face in the whole world.

Now everyone wants Floyd Mayweather Jr. next and it might be the biggest fight of the century and will probably break a few records in boxing. It will be the mother of all fight and pay per view might reach 2 million buys. The current pound for pound king versus the previous one is going to be the battle of the century. Let just hope Mayweather Jr will not duck Pacquiao this time because he was known to give lots of excuses just to skip out the fight.

So like many filipinos, I am glad Manny Pacquiao was able to win this one because I think this is one of his hardest fight in the last few years. Clearly Manny Pacquiao evolved into a complete boxer while jumping out in weigh class from one fight to another. Remember he’s used to fight at 126 lbs before going to 130 lbs mid decade and moving up to 135 lbs last year to get David Diaz belt before meeting De la Hoya at 147 lbs and make him  quit on his stool. Finally he goes back at 140lbs to fight Hatton and knocked him cold at the end of 2nd round and then demolished Miguel Cotto at 145 lbs.

As you can see Pacquiao never fought in the same weight class for his last 5 fights and he never loses too. Now I don’t know what weight class he will fight next. So what can you say about this little man from south of the Philippines?
