Kanye West grabs the mic from Taylor Swift
Kanye West once again was able to out done himself. West, who has flipped out before after losing at the VMAs, the Grammys, the American Music Awards and more — again took it by himself when the awards process didn’t go the way he wanted it to go. This time, it was on behalf of Beyonce.
At the 2006 MTV Europe Music Awards in Denmark, West crashed the stage after his “Touch The Sky” lost to Justice Vs. Simian’s “We Are Your Friends.” “Oh hell no, you guys won already. Share the wealth. Fuck this,” West said after coming uninvited onstage, mic already in hand, during Simian’s acceptance speech. “This video cost a million dollars!”
And then there was the incident at the VMAs in Las Vegas, with Kanye flipping out because his performance of “Stronger” was relegated to a suite and not the main stage. Adding fuel to the fire was the fact that Kanye lost in all five of the categories he was nominated, resulting in West totally losing his shit in a backstage flip-out that was caught by cameras. “I lost to the fucking Black Eyed Peas last year, man. I’m never fucking coming back to MTV,” Kanye screamed. MTV’s probably wishing about now he hadn’t returned.
This time around his victim was a teenage artist who visibly very excited to win the award only to be interrupted by West by taking the microphone from her while she’s doing her speech and telling the audience that he thinks Beyonce should have won instead.
“Thank you so much!” Swift began. “I always dreamed about what it would be like to maybe win one of these some day, but I never actually thought it would have happened. I sing country music so thank you so much for giving me a chance to win a VMA award.”
Then Kanye West jumps into stage and took the microphone from Taylor Swift’s hand and started bursting his words “Taylor, I’m really happy for you, and I’m gonna let you finish, but Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time,” he said, as a shocked Beyonce looked on and the crowd began to boo.
A stunned Swift staggered and didn’t get to finish her acceptance speech. The crowd booed West, who shortly after was asked to leave the show and left the building. My heart broke after seeing what happened and I don’t even know Taylor Swift personally, but just imagine how she felt at that moment and what her family felt at that time.
Nobody cares about what Kanye thinks and he obviously didn’t care that he just broke the heart of Taylor Swift in front of thousands of people inside Radio City Hall stage and millions watching around the world. He shouldn’t get invited anymore to any musical awards or any awards for that matter. He doesn’t know what humility and respect means I guess. What can you say about the incident? Me I’m not going to listen to his music anymore and I will take it off my playlist and maybe even deleted them all.
Well the irony of it all was Beyonce won a more prestigious award and she let Taylor Swift back to stage to finish her acceptance speech. If West just waited a little longer then he will see that he doesn’t need to do that stupid stunt of his.

Kanye West is the very definition of a douchebag who thinks he’s the hottest thing ever.. he’s far from it. Untalented chump. Stealing someone’s glory just seems like thing he would do.
Beyonce was soooo gracious. Invited Taylor on the stage to re-do the speech later. Definitely got a lot more respect from me for that gesture.

Awe it’s too bad what happened. Poor Taylor Swift I can’t even imagine the disappointment as her first VMA award had to be like this. I think Beyonce did an amazing job with her video but who cares Talyor won and that’s the point here.

Kanye West is obviously getting a reputation for these kind of stunts. On his blog today he issues a full apology over the incident but he really should keep out of other peoples business. According to the BBC, Swift’s mother had a go at him before he left. If he’s confused as to why he doesn’t win more awards then maybe it’s his attitude where the problem is.
What’s the use of his apology if he keeps on doing it? Also he can not take it back….it was Taylor Swift’s moment and he hijacked it.
I feel sorry for Taylor and it was indeed an awkward moment there. I believe both Taylor and Beyonce and many other artists create great music videos. We need to respect and care about others’ feelings before making personal judgments publicly.

Fixing the video. For some reason I can’t show in WordPress the video, I need to upload it somewhere else like daily motion then copy the embed code from there. I already uploaded it on my host through WP “add a video” but it just won’t work.
I think you’ll find that this was staged. I wrote a post on my blog a little while back about how to use controversy as a way to boost publicity. Even bad publicity is good publicity particularly in the music business.
The fact that he had a mic, that was operational should tell you something. Here’s a couple of questions.
If it wasn’t staged how did he get the mic?
If it wasn’t staged how did he get past security and on to the stage?
If it wasn’t staged how did he get past the stage manager?
If it wasn’t staged why didn’t they cut the mic?
You see? Too many unanswerable questions so IMO this was totally staged.

Kanye does not have his own mic and he took it out of Taylor Swift’s hand . He was able to jumped to the stage quickly as he was seated near and I don’t see any stage manager nor security. Also they maybe allowed him as they thought he will just congratulate Taylor. The whole thing only lasted for 10 seconds so no time to cut out the mic.
I thought it was nice that Beyonce let her Taylor come up and finish her speech. She didn’t have to, but she did, and that was really awesome of her. I’ve never liked Kanye’s music much anyway, and somehow his behavior doesn’t surprise me.

What Beyonce did was really a nice gesture as she was once a teenage winner in VMA and she knows the feeling of winning the first time at that young age. Tayloft Swift looks fantastic in her red dress and maybe it’s a blessing in disguise and now people know her better abd like her more.
Poor girl.

I am not sure what Kanye had in his mind when he said that. I feel so sorry for the young teenage Taylor Swift. She must be totally embarrassed and would have felt uncomfortable to the core.This the first time she is grabbing an MTV award and a bad event is absolutely remorseful. Ms. Swift has been on stage much more times and I think instances like these will make here more mature and much more talented. god bless her.
And guys, lately i read today’s telegraph article where Kanye West had made an public apology to Taylor Swift. So If making a public apology after such an outburst is a cult status then Kanye should be given a special jury award for doing it perfectly.

I agree with what you’ve said 100 percent. This is nothing new to Kanye though but this time he dissed poor Taylor and she’s about to perform 5 minutes later. Good thing she was able to set aside the bad experience and was able to continue with her performance.

Kanye West is a jerk, and no one has the right to humiliate someone just cause you think is not as good as someone else. I just heard Taylor Swift yesterday -and I think she´s a good artist- I´m sorry her first VMA was ruined by an idiot like West.
Hi there! I totally LOVE Taylor Swift and I almost died when that happened to that sweet little girl. Kanye West is such an ignorant hothead and if he had only waited around, he would have seen that Beyonce won an even more prestigious award later on. People are really getting sick of how full of himself he is–I think that his mother would have been ashamed of him. But on the other hand, the guy has suffered a tragic loss (his mother’s death), and even though he was a jerk before she died, too, maybe this time it’s because he’s still grieving–who knows why people act like idiots?
Now Beyonce is a different story. What she did was VERY classy. I really wish that you had posted the clip of her calling Taylor Swift forward so that she could finish the rest of her acceptance speech on “her” time. By not doing so, you didn’t present a major part of the story. Do you understand what I mean? However, I think you did a good job on the part you did present–it’s just that the part with Beyonce is what makes it complete and a memorable story of right and wrong, the proper way to treat people, and the compassion of one woman for another. I know that I will never forget it.
