I never realised the Alexa ranking is counted through users who have the Alexa toolbar installed. Having looked further into it, it seems that the Alexa ranking may be somewhat biased as more IT and techy people install the toolbar opposed to normal 'everyday' surfers, so less technical sites wont get as high an Alexa ranking as blogs that focus on technical topics.
