Crop Circles Google Earth

Do you know what Crop Circles are? I’ve watched these in Discovery channel sometime ago and today I noticed Crop Circles are the trend for Google searches. Crop Circles are those patterns or designs on fields created by flattening the crops such as corns, rye, barley, wheat, etc. The term Crop Circle was coined by researcher Colin Andrews in the early 80s and entered the Oxford Dictionary in 1997. It was believed that Crop Circles were anything but man made. Some says it was made by aliens and some says its paranormal.

So I logged in Google Earth  and tried to check some areas where I thought  I can find Crop Circles. It’s a little hard at first so I needed to search for places in Google where Crop Circles has been seen.  The only time you can see Crop Circles before was when you are flying, like in an airplane or hot air balloon  Now if you want to see a crop circle, all you need to do is fire up your Google Earth (well search for places first) and be ready for an display of crop circles. Here are some of the coolest crop circles I’ve found on the internet:

Based on Wiki, since appearing in the media in the 1970s, crop circles have become the subject of various paranormal and fringe beliefs, ranging from the hypothesis that they are created by freak meteorological phenomena to the belief that they represent messages from extraterrestrials.

In 1991, Two men, Doug Bower and Dave Chorley from England, announced that they had conceived the idea as a prank  during an evening in 1976. Inspired by the 1966 Tully Saucer Nests, they made their crop circles using planks, rope, hats and wire as their only tools and easily created circles eight feet in diameter. The two men were able to make a 40-foot (12 m) circle in just 15 minutes.

The pair became frustrated when their work did not receive significant publicity, so in 1981, they created another circle in Matterley Bowl, an area surrounded by roads from which a clear view of the field is available to drivers passing by. Their designs were at first simple circles. When newspapers claimed that the circles could easily be explained by natural phenomena, Bower and Chorley made more complex patterns. A simple wire with a loop, hanging down from a cap—the loop positioned over one eye—could be used to focus on a landmark to aid in the creation of straight lines. Later designs of crop circles became increasingly complicated.

Bower’s wife had become suspicious of him, noticing high levels of mileage in their car. Eventually, fearing that his wife suspected him of having another girl, Bower confessed to her, and subsequently, he and Chorley informed a national newspaper. Chorley died in 1996, and Doug Bower has made crop circles as recently as 2004. Bower has said that, had it not been for his wife’s suspicions, he would have taken the secret to his deathbed, never revealing that it was a hoax.

Do you think crop circles are paranormal or an imprint from extraterrestrials beings. Or it was all man made since the beginning?

  2. Firstly those crop circles are awesome and so accurate but they most definitely are man made.
That’s an interesting story though, id definitely call it art though.

Yes its an art. Just imagine how difficult to do that at night. I mean some of the crop circles are done at night so no one will see how it is done and will make people think that aliens did it.

What an interesting read. I never realized that there was a confession in the crop circle “community”. That definitely puts it into a different perspective for me. Though, I never believed they were from aliens.

This is indeed an interesting topic… If this is man-made… then the guys making these did a magnificent job.. doing it precisely! But what interests me is the mozzila design.. did mozzila paid these guys to create it? And if not definitely they are geeks! Alien Geeks! hehehehe…

  5. Ok, that is a totally cool trick to be able to use with Google Earth! Thanks for sharing, and for giving us more background on crop circles.

I was rather hoping they were made by aliens, as that would be cool. Hoaxes like this and Bigfoot are so darn disappointing!

  6. Very nice. But I vote, “man made”. However, not in the Doug and Dave sense. They are probably made using computers, laser and/or microwave technology.

I mean, come on… we humans have the ability to see deep into outer space, to beam cellphone messages from one end of the planet to another, and to microwave a frozen pizza in 3 minutes.

I would imagine creating a crop circle simply requires computers, lasers and microwave technology… which MANKIND has possessed at least since the 1970′s (although not commonly used until later).

So creating a crop circle is easily within the realm of human technology, it’s just that I guess there hasn’t been the CIVILIAN demand for this technology, if you know what I mean.

I think that anybody claiming to be the creator of these, was, and is, lying.

The creations are so mathematically precise-every single angle and shape in exact same precision in proportion to the rest of the it’s shape, that it’s impossible that some people just go out into the night and create these. These have to be created either by top-secret government organizations, or by other sources not man-made.

  9. Mack from Las Vegas Homes says:

I think they are man made. Its little tougher to agree on the imprints by extraterrestrial part. With such approximate proportions and elegant designs those pictures are definitely man made. Looks like the place belong to some corporate giants and they have inscribed their company logos on the surface to trademark their business :P The third pic is the best example for a man made crop design. Thanks for letting me know about a totally new term and phenomenon. I guess have to make some research on this as well.

I also think it was all man made based on the stories of two guys who claimed to start this crop circle thing back in the 70′s. Also those students from Oregon U proved they can do some crop circles of their own in a form of Firefox logo.

Hey that was an excellent post. I almost believed that these circles are made by aliens after watching the movie signs. Thank god you cleared the air :)

    Thanks,
    Steven

  11. Hi there! These circles look too complicated to have been made by some guy walking around using planks, rope, hats and wire, so I don’t think I believe Doug Bower‘s and Dave Chorley‘s stories. I do believe that they wanted their names to go down in history because they were ordinary men who were not capable of becoming famous in any other way (short of murder, of course), but that wouldn’t have given them anywhere near the publicity that this ruse has. No, I do not believe their story at all.

For one thing, the mileage on Bower’s car would have had to have been astronomical and he would have had to also have explained prolonged absenses to his wife as well, because aren’t those circles located in different countries? Or are these particular ones all in the local vicinity to where these two men lived? Still…they’re too intricate to have been accomplished with such rudimentary tools, don’t you agree?

As to whether aliens created them or not, I am undecided. I’m not exactly sure what the Bible says about the existence of aliens, but if it says they exist, then I would believe they could have done this with advanced technology–but if the Bible says they don’t exist, then I’d have to say, “no way.”

Interesting story, though. I enjoy your blog.

God bless you and I’ll see you again soon.

    Sincerely,
    Cynde

Hi Cynde, Yes Doug and Dave just started the crop circle thing by their own admittance but we can’t really tell that now do we? The pictures posted here are the best Crop Circles you can find and surely those weren’t made with rope, planks, wires alone.

Now they also use planes to see above if they are doing it right before continuing.

I FIND IT QUITE INTERESTING. BUT, WHO IS IT THAT HAS TIME TO DO THIS STUFF?

  13. Rebecca from Electric Griddle says:

Those are some really cool crop circle pictures. I’m going to vote for man-made as well. One of the farms near where I live does a Corn Maze every fall. It is always of a local sports celebrity and always looks amazingly accurate. I figure if they are able to that, than man is capable of creating the crop circles that have been sited over the years.

  14. ZXT says:

@Dawn: well maybe those people that creative enough and has a lots of time in his hands

    @Rebecca: Corn maze…thats cool!

  15. Jennifer says:

I’ve always just assumed they were all man made, but I like them anyway. I think of them as an art form, I guess. I love the pictures, and I like the alien theories, like Santa Claus stories.

  16. Matt from article marketing blog says:

These are amazing pictures. As much as I’d like to think they were created by aliens, I’d have to conclude that humans did them.

They certainly put a helluva lot of work into them, too. If I had worked that hard, I’d be telling everyone – media included – so I could get some kind of credit. I’d also try and get an arts grant for the next one I did!

  20. When I first saw this on TV, I was amazed on how they were able to make such art. But I still vote its man made. Sadly, those farmers would be a “little” (hopefully) pissed off with what happened to their crops. Still, those who made those designs are of real talent with all its complexity.
