8 Ways to Improve your Alexa Ranking

Increase Alexa Ranking

Just how essential is Alexa Ranking for your blog? How a better Alexa ranking will earn you more money? Well it depends who you ask. Personally I never cared for Alexa as I am not a fan of tool bars and the less programs runs in the background in my computer the better. If you run ads in blog or website, a high Alexa ranking will attract more advertisers  and the better the ranking the more advertisers will be interested in advertising on your site and you will make money.

Here are 8 ways to improve your Alexa ranking based on tips from friend blogs and some that I gathered around the internet.  Right now my ranking is 16,966,271 and this blog is just about a week old. I am following these 8 tips and I will give an update to see if these tips works or not. My target is to get under the 1 million mark in 30 days.
Don’t forget that good content will bring audience and visitors regularly that will eventually help your ranking with Alexa but for the meantime try these 8 tips and see for yourself.

1. Install the Alexa toolbar so you help your blog ranking every time you visit your own blog. Do this to all of your computers (home, office, laptop, etc) This is the easiest and most basic step.
2. Encourage others to use the Alexa toolbar. This includes friends, fellow webmasters as well as site visitors/blog readers. Be sure to link to Alexa’s full explanation of their toolbar and tracking system so your readers know what installing the toolbar or extension entails.
3. Write or Blog about Alexa. Webmaster and bloggers love to hear about ways to increase their Alexa rank. They’ll link to you and send you targeted traffic (i.e. visitors with the toolbar already installed). This is what I’m doing right now.
4. Parade your URL in webmaster/blog and other forums. Webmasters usually have the toolbar installed. You’ll get webmasters to visit your website and offer useful feedback. It’s also a good way to give back to the community if you have useful articles to share with others.
5. Write an article that is related to webmasters. This can fall in the category of domain and SEO, two fields in which most webmasters will have the Alexa toolbar installed. Promote your content on social networking websites and webmaster forums.
6. Install Alexa widget. Some bloggers say this help them with Alexa ranking but some people say it doesn’t matter whether you have an Alexa widget or not. I guess I have to try it to see if it does work or not.
7. Use Social Networking/Bookmarking sites. This usually brings good numbers of visitors to your website and it will have a positive impact on your Alexa Rank. Naturally, you’ll need to develop a link worthy material. Try Digg, Reddit and Stumble Upon.
8. Create an Alexa category on your blog and use it to include any articles or news about Alexa. This acts as an easily accessible resource for webmasters or casual search visitors while helping you rank in the search engines.

If you got any Alexa tips to add please don’t hesitate to add it on the comment box below. Looking forward for your comments.

  1. Nice tips, though increasing my Alexa Rank is not my current priority. Btw Alexa Widget gives better traffic information to Alexa, because every time a visitor loads your site, the widget will run a script from Alexa. It allows Alexa to update your rank everyday.

@Isaac: I’m going to install the Alexa widget now and see if that makes a difference. The only problem is I am applying all these tips at the same time so not sure which one works and which ones don’t.

@Dennis: Hey I like your blog and just a quick update, my Alexa ranking is now 8,762,614. I just cut it in half in just a few days.

@LetUpdate: You are welcome…you are on the 717k mark, I’m pretty sure you can hit 500k in no titme by applying these tips.

@BAS: Yeah implement them and get back here for an update. You are at 106k mark. Lets get over the 100k mark.

I had this alexa widget on my site previously, but it didn’t help me to improve my alexa rank, it just increased my website loading time. that’s it :(

  7. After 1 year of blogging my Alexa rank on my technology blog is 60306, but the Alexa toolbar for firefox does add a little latency to page load times, since it has to look up information and such. I don’t heavily promote Alexa, but if you bring alot of traffic to your site, your Alexa rank will naturally get better since it is very heavily tied to number of visitors to your site, not tied as much to backlinks like Google Pagerank.

I think the best suggestion here is to encourage your readers to us the toolbar! Adding the toolbar yourself at home, in the office etc… is fine but if you can increase the amount of users visiting your site using Alexa toolbar that would be the biggest gain.

    Nice tips ZXT

I love your outlook on encountering such new experiences. I think that is a great way to get involved and make the best use of such a service. I for one, have never been involved in the Alexa ranking neither, and find this a good way to increase the Alexa ranking. I think it is your enthusiasm for it, that I find most supportive. I think you have already encouraged your readers to get involved in it, by breaking down the strategy into tips and engaging the reader into your own experience. I wish you well in it, and I hope your success becomes even more bigger than it is now, as am sure it will be.

All the best, and thank you for dropping by my blog and leaving your thoughts.

@Een Rockstar: Thanks for the compliment.

@Brian: I got to agree with you. Encouraging others to use the tool bar especially your regular visitors will boost your Alexa ranking.

@Ana: Thank you for wishing me good luck and for the visit. I think Alexa ranking help bloggers get better paying ads which if not for the ads, most bloggers will just fade away into cybergrave.

@EJ: Thanks for your comment, I can’t wait for your Alexa post.

@Sernan: Just try to follow some if not all suggestions above and you will see your ranking cut in half in not time. I just did in 3 days.

Thanks for the encouraging words guys. Being a brand new blogger (just 12 days as of today) its pretty exciting to see figures improving though I know its nothing for seasoned bloggers and its not that big a deal for most. Keeps me motivated to learn more and apply some tips I get from you guys.

Just an update, my current Alexa ranking as of now is 5,459,914, improving by more than 3 million. I guess these tips plus your visits contributed to my Alexa ranking. 4.5 million to go with 28 days left…I think I’m on target (under 1 million in 1 month)

  18. This was an excellent and very useful post. There are absolutely ways to manipulate your Alexa rating, as you described. Another helpful way is to look up Google’s top-searched words for the day and then use them in your post. Works every time.

@The Constant Complainer: Well I wouldn’t call it manipulating but maybe just doing what makes Alexa tick. You have an interesting blog that looks like mine…oh…yes we have the same Atahualpa theme. I can see your Alexa is at 1.7Million, pretty good.

So I guess the bottom line is – increase your Alexa rank by getting more traffic? :D Well, with the catch that you’re going for a bit more “targeted” traffic in form of webmasters that might have Alexa toolbar installed.

I see that your Alexa rank is now 2,824,783 so you’re already much better than the 16 million a few days ago :)
