15th Philippine International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta part 2

This is a continuation of Hot Air Balloon Fiesta part 1. The 15th Philippine International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta program was from 5:30am to 6:30pm.  We’ve been only there for 3 hours but it seems like the whole day already. The day consists of planes, choppers, kites, sky divers, air stunts and of course hot air balloons. Good thing it was a cloudy day so everyone can stay out in the open without getting burn but the sky divers had to fly lower because of the clouds. We decided to see the chopper demonsrtation before leaving for early lunch, then some more skydiving. Here are the pics.

One hour before noon we decided to take lunch at a nearby SM Mall and we slept in the car for an hour to recharge our batteries because there’s still a long day ahead of us. We went back around 3pm and again a couple of planes were doing maneuvers in the sky and its actually my first time to see airplane exhibition in live. By now, the kites doubled which I think was close to a hundred which comes in all shapes and sizes and flies in all directions.

Let me show some of the pictures because a picture is worth a thousand words, saves me from typing long sentences.

As you can see a couple of planes are doing some aero exhibition and a SIL Helio plane demonstrating its short take off and landing capability. Then its time for some sky diving in wing suit as three civilian jumped from 5,000 feet and did some half a minute free fall before opening their chutes. They look like birds at a distance. Here are more pics.

There are displays of military guns also at the hangar and everyone is free to pick his weapon and take pictures. My son and I plays Ghost Recon and Call of Duty together and he like being a sniper a lot so when he saw the sniper gun he quickly asked if he can hold it. The last part of the event was the night glow display of hot air balloons. Unfortunately the wind is blowing a tad bit stronger so most of the balloon never had the chance to be fully filled up. Nevertheless I captured some of it.

I wasn’t able to get a good position because there’s a fence holding up the people and I was in the third row. Nevertheless I tried my best to get some good shots. I think I will come back next year and this time we will be there earlier and hopefully I can get an all access pass so I can get near the balloons and take some good shots.

  1. Dr. Ann Voisin from legosets says:

It is often not recollected that the first recorded hot air balloon demonstration took place at the Palace of Versailles. In attendance was the then ambassador to France, Benjamin Franklin, who understood that what he was watching was the birth of aeronautics.

The idea of the hot air balloon was the result of two brothers watching a fire in the south of France, and noticing that their clothes drying by the fire were smoking as the hot air rose.

One brother commented to the other about this, and from that simple observation they began a series of experiments that ended up with the demonstration in the King’s palace.

I should have gone to this place for a date. Damn. If I didn’t loose my atm card the night before the valentines day, I must be sharing some photos by now. Anyway, there’s next year so I’ll wait for the next year’s event.

  3. The choppers looked like my kid’s toys from a distance. I wish I’d have a toy such as that one on the upper right. :)

If I could arrange a trip to Manila next year, I’d definitely make it on February so I can catch this cool festival at the Clark Economic Zone.

You had a wonderful experience. I’m envious! It’s awesome to watch the balloons revealing bright colors at night. May Fiesta palang ganito sa Clark, palibhasa wala kasi kami nito sa Davao.

  7. The seahorses looks amazing and the other hot air balloons of course. The guns however are sharp! I would love to hold these actual weapons. I am sure your son was thrilled after holding the sniper rifle. Well I can’t blame your son, being the silent killer in the battlefield was always been the cool character right?

Whoaaaa thats a pretty big gun! I’ve had the chance to go to one of these air balloon shows before in Albuquerque, New Mexico. It’s definitely something you gotta do at least once.

Did you go to this year’s Hot air balloon festival in Pampanga? We got our tickets already but something urgent came up. It was supposed to be my first time to be there. Too bad I have to wait for another year.
