10 Ways to Build an Audience for your Blog

There is no single thing that will attract all the readers you want to your blog. It takes a combination of efforts to give you the success that you deserve. Here are ten tips to improving your blog’s audience which have been culled from all over the net.

1. Be Original – Readers appreciate the passion and care that you put into your blog posts. You can express everything that you’re interested in within the confines of your blog page, from aardvarks to zygotes. People want your opinion, they don’t want another spin.

2. Frequency and Consistency – Blog readers look forward to the day that they can read your post. Some bloggers prefer to do it once a week. Some do it every day. Be frequent enough with your posting so that you can stay relevant on the topic and that your readers won’t forget that you exist. Be consistent with your schedule so that your subscribers know when they can read more great content.

3. Read and Comment on Popular blogs – One of the best ways to get an audience for your blog is to read and comment on other people’s blogs. With intelligent and relevant comments, you bring more readers in by making them curious about what else you have to say. If they like what they see, you’ve just gained another subscriber.

4. Write Guest Posts – To be seen as an expert in your subject area, you need to talk about it a lot. There are probably a few other blogs which have the same subject as yours. Volunteer to be a guest poster at a blog you respect and could contribute to. You might pick up some new readers.

5. Create Links – Links are another method to create curiosity and readers. Linking to a site attracts the attention of a blog owner, encouraging them to go out and investigate who is linking to their site. If the other blogger enjoys your work, they could return the link so that their readers have an easy way to come to you.

6. SEO the blog – Use SEO techniques for each part of the blog. Make sure that there are relevant keywords and phrases scattered throughout. Be compelling with your content and the readers will come.

7. Look for those who are like you – There are plenty of people who are interested in the same things that you are. Those who are like you are more likely to get the jokes and enjoy the passionate and endearing blog that you have created. Those readers who like your content are also more likely to spread the word for you and bring in new readers.

8. Make List Posts – Readers love to receive clear information about interesting things. Make top ten lists. Tell your readers about your top five bands. Write about the four things you hate about your hair. Since search engines love seeing the headings, you get ranked just a little higher.

9. Conduct Surveys and Polls – Engage your readers with polls and surveys. They love to feel connected to you via your blog, and are itching for the chance to tell you what they think about news events, your hair or cars. This gives your readers a chance to directly tell you what they like and dislike.

10. Headlines are Hot – Make headlines that concisely tell your readers what you have to offer them. You want to grab their attention and keep it from the first word to the last. Use a great headline to show that you’ve got the best.

Bringing readers in takes time and effort, but it’s definitely worth it in the long run. You will be well rewarded when you take the time to cultivate your readership.
