Top Commentators

Top CommentatorsI finally give in. I put a Top Commentator widget on my blog. This is to give something back to people who add comments. I want my blog to be as simple as it can be, with less ads and less widgets but I think Top Commentator is a win-win situation between me and my commentators.

Leaving comments on other people’s blog is an excellent way of getting links back to your website. However, in some cases what you are really getting is a no-follow link, which means search engines don’t see the link and its not counted as backlink.

This blog is a PR3 blog and it’s a Dofollow so being there in the top commentator side bar will give some link love or aka PR boost. The first thing I’ve learned about getting traffic to my blog and some PageRank back when I made this blog 6 months ago was to add useful comments to different blogs on the internet.

Adding comments to other blogs creates exposure to my “non existent” blog. And this blog actually got a PR3 right away after 2 months maybe because the result of my comments. I’m leaving something like 30 comments a day on about a dozen blogs and the result is about 20 visits coming from those blogs too. So aside from a PR boost, you’ll also get some traffic back.

I’m not worried about spam because Akismet plug in has been doing an excellent job in catching about 95 percent of spam comments and I delete the remaining 5 percent like “great post” “I like this article” type of comments. So make sure you read it the article and put some useful comments so your comment won’t get deleted.

So there you go, I finally installed the Top Commentator plug in and now I’m rewarding those people who add their 2 cents in my articles. Happy commenting.

Earthquake Zone

Earth has just been hit with 3 powerful Earthquakes in a span of less than 2 months. I don’t remember 3 major quakes hitting the globe within 50 days.

First it was Haiti on January 12, 2010 with magnitude 7 that claimed the lives of 220,000 people and fast reaching the 250,000 death toll of Asian Tsunami in 2004. With a population of less than 10 million, that’s more than 2.2 percent of the country’s population wiped out just like that.

Then 6 weeks after that, it was Chile’s turn to hit by an earthquake 500 times more powerful than of Haiti’s. It was 8.8 Magnitude but fortunately there was much less casualty at 279 at this moment. Sadly though properties and infrastructure was badly hit as bridges, buildings and houses were destroyed.

Yesterday it was Taiwan. An earthquake of 6.4 magnitude hit Taiwan in the morning. There are no casualty in the report but 64 people were injured. The quake only resulted in minor damages aside from the factory that caught fire.

So why are these quakes hitting the earth left and right? If you gonna ask a religious person then you probably get “the end of the world is near” answer. If you gonna ask someone that’s not too religious then he or she probably say it’s just a coincidence.

Science on the other hand has the answer. The number of earthquakes for the past 2 months is just the average. There are some big quakes that’s not newsworthy because it happened in the ocean or in the mountains. A powerful quake hit near Japan with a magnitude 7 on February 26, 2010. Another 6.4 quake yesterday rattled the tiny Pacific island nation of Vanuatu, but no injuries have been reported. The Haiti and Chile quakes unfortunately were have hit in the population areas were lives and properties are dense.

Whatever the real reason of these quakes, we all need to be prepared. We never know when a big one will hit our area and our first defense is being ready when it comes. So check your house for cracks and vulnerability. Have flashlights that can easily be reach by anyone in your household. If your area is within or under a fault line then I suggest transfer to another place.

More than 5,000 men and women shed their clothing – people of all ages, shapes and sizes, gays and straight alike who were undeterred by the chilly pre-dawn weather on this, the first morning of the southern autumn.

They pose for a photograph by the American artist Spencer Tunick.

Tunick, famed for his snapshots of mass nudity in public spaces, had been commissioned by the organisers of Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, which took place over the weekend.

The naked models included a pregnant woman, who went straight to hospital afterwards to give birth, and a television weatherman whose viewers got to see considerably more than his usual Monday morning forecast.

8 Phone Card Tips You Need to Know

1. Rates
Many people buy calling cards by looking at the advertised XXX minutes for ABC country, but what they don’t know is that calling different countries means different rates. And rates are also different if you are going to call a landline or a mobile phone outside of US or Canada. So smart shoppers should find out the rates of calling a certain country, then divide your card balance by the ‘per minute rate’ which will give you the remaining ‘minutes’ on your card.

For OneSuite users, you could go to our rates page for verification so you’d know if you could stay on the line for 1 hour or just 5 minutes with your available balance.

2. Hidden Fees and Surcharges
Some phone cards may or may not disclose in fine prints, some extra charges on top of your actual usage. (NOT at OneSuite)

  1. Connection Fees – It’s an additional fee that applies to every connected call and it varies amongst each phone card company. When the cards appear to have a very low per minute rate, be sure to check if there’s any hidden connection fee.
  2. Tax – Some prepaid phone cards charge a separate monthly tax or one-time tax, so the advertised per minute rate will be more appealing.
  3. Maintenance Fees – It’s a fee charged by the phone card company either when the first call is connected or after it’s finished. This scheduled fee may be applied semi-weekly, weekly, bi-weekly or monthly.
  4. Communication Fees – Some phone cards charge a communication fee and it’s usually applied after the call is finished.
  5. Minutes Increment – Most prepaid phone cards apply one-minute rounding and some use 2-5 minutes rounding.

3. Access numbers
There are two types of access numbers, Toll Free and Local Access numbers. Use the local access number as much as possible because this will give you lower rates. Local Access numbers allows you to take advantage of the free local calls provided by your local or mobile carrier. However, you’ll need to verify the access number you use is within the local call parameter of your carrier to avoid unnecessary charges.

This is also true when calling from another country. Check if there’s a local access number you may use in that country.

Sunday’s Babes of the Week

Last Sunday of the month and I got 3 Sunday Babes for you guys. I’ve been a UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) fan since early 2000 and they got the prettiest ring girls (in these case, Octagon girls) in the business. So today I’d like to feature here 3 babes from UFC.

First on the list is Arianny Celeste. She’s been in the UFC since 2006. She became a UFC Octagon Girl in typical fashion – through a modeling casting call – but ever since she made her debut at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in 2006, life has been anything but typical for the 22-year old, who saw her first live mixed martial arts fight that summer night in Las Vegas.

Big Savings

I was browsing the other day, looking for some cool domain names to get an idea for a good one because I’m interested in getting a good domain name and selling it in the future. I think they call it domain flipping. Anyways, I thought of checking out savings.com domain name and what do yo know the website is well made and it deals with, yes you guess it right, consumer savings.

It’s Google Page Rank is 6 and Alexa at 8k, pretty impressive numbers. It has deal coupons on almost anything you can think of from Verizon Wireless coupons to Chegg coupon (a text book rental website)

Savings.com actually scours the internet for best deals, promo codes and other free stuff from your favorite stores and brand. So if you are planning to buy some stuff, subscribe to any service or just plain windows shopping then I suggest you visit the site and check out for yourself.

Also if you like to know some tips on energy savings then check out Energy Savers Dot Gov. You can find tips on how to save from house lighting, electricity, appliances to home design. You’ll get some very good ideas and if you apply it in your own home it means money save. The result will be less electric bills which can translate to more money to spend on something else like food or investment.

I think the whole world is recovering but it is still in recession so every penny we save will go a long way in the future. That’s why aside from thinking on how to save, I’m also checking out other online opportunities for making money.  Google Adsense doesn’t work out much unless you have 1k visitors a day because if you only get 100/day just like this blog then you’ll just average 15c/day or just $5 a month well at least its almost enough to pay for my web hosting.

I hope every one start saving now because our Earth’s resources are running out.
